Recount set for Charles Mix sheriff primary
A recount will be held Monday on the vote totals from the Democratic primary for Charles Mix sheriff.
Gene Niehus, who lost the election by two votes on June 3 by a 324-322 margin to Wagner police officer DesaRae Gravatt, has requested a recount. Candidates can request a recount in county races if the margin is less than 2 percent of the total votes cast in the race.
Charles Mix County Auditor Sherri Fuchs said Wednesday that the recount will be held Monday at the courthouse in Lake Andes. The county canvassed the results Friday and Niehus requested the recount.
If the results of the election are confirmed, Gravatt will face current Charles Mix Sheriff Randy Thaler, a Republican, in the November general election.
