Raymond J. Kolbeck, 88, of 300 N. Adams, Salem, SD, passed away on August 1, 2014 at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at the St. Marys Catholic Church in Salem, SD at 10:30 am. Visitation will begin on Monday, August 4, 2014 at 9:00 am with a rosary at 3 pm at Kinzley Funeral Home and a wake service at 6:45 pm with a rosary, followed by a prayer service at 7 pm at the St. Marys Catholic Church, family will be present at 6pm at the church.

Raymond J. Kolbeck was born on December 23, 1925, the oldest of 11 children of Joseph and Clara (Deters) Kolbeck. He completed the 8th grade at Salem St. Marys Grade School. Ray served two years of service during WWII as a Private First Class in the 505th Military Police Battalion European Theater in Austria. Upon returning home he married his lifelong partner, Dolores (Squeak) Gaspar, on January 28, 1948. Ray & Dolores lived on a farm south of Salem and were blessed with 12 children. They were busy raising these children along with operating a farrow to finish hog unit, a commercial cow/calf herd and raising corn, soybeans, oats & hay.

Ray was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church, Catholic Order of Foresters, American Legion Post 140, South Dakota Pork Producers, NFO, and also served as clerk of the Emery Township Board for many years. His hearts passion was his love for his family and farming. He also enjoyed his card playing afternoons with his many friends at the local pubs. On many afternoons you could find Ray driving around the neighborhood checking the cattle and crops and stopping to visit with the neighbors. Ray was also noted for his beautiful head of hair, he was often referred to as the "Silver Fox"!

Grateful for having shared his life is his wife of 66 years, Dolores (Squeak), children: Jean (Mike) Seivert, Alcester, SD, Diane (Nick) Kranz, Watertown, SD, Jack (Muriel) Kolbeck, Sioux Falls, SD, Shirley (Jay) DeBoer, Tea, SD, Nancy (Curt) Matzen, Sioux Falls, SD, Michelle (Doug) Zelmer, Salem, SD, Bill (Dawn) Kolbeck, Canton, SD, Deb (Mike) Bennett, Gillette, WY, Tom (Colleen) Kolbeck, Salem, SD, Cathy (Steve) Eichacker, Salem, SD, Connie (Greg) Schmeichel, Sioux Falls, SD, Cheri (Terry) Feterl, Mitchell, SD, 32 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, his siblings, Joe Kolbeck, Salem, SD, Sr. Marita Kolbeck, Yankton, SD, Ardella Sherwood, California, Carol (Andy) Mack, Sioux Falls, SD, Ken (Diane) Kolbeck, Sioux Falls, SD, Jim (Myra) Kolbeck, Sioux Falls, SD. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Rich, Ervin and Walt and one sister, Dorothy Helma, two brothers-in-law, Jim Helma and Jack Sherwood and one son-in-law, Dale Haar.
