Rapid City stock show has 2nd-best attendance year
RAPID CITY (AP) — Organizers say 322,000 people attended this year's Black Hills Stock Show and Rodeo in Rapid City, an increase of nearly 5 percent over last year, despite bitter cold temperatures.
The show's attendance record was set in 2012 when 333,000 people passed through the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center during the 10-day event.
Civic Center General Manager Brian Maliske says the stock show and rodeo provides a boost to the local economy in the middle of winter.
Buyers spent about $1.3 million on purebred bulls and heifers this year, up slightly from last year.
