Rapid City may face $38 million upgrade on center
RAPID CITY (AP) -- Rapid City may have to spend nearly $38 million to make the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center accessible for people with disabilities.
The Rapid City Journal reports the city is facing a possible U.S. Justice Department investigation into why the 36-year-old civic center and arena do not comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The city hired two firms earlier this year to analyze the civic center.
The two firms found 403 potential issues and estimated that the cost of fixing them at $36.1 million to $37.8 million.
