Rapid City man pleads guilty to killing pregnant girlfriend
RAPID CITY (AP) — A Rapid City man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend and her unborn child has pleaded guilty in a deal with prosecutors.
Thirty-two-year-old Michael Young on Monday pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the April 2012 stabbing death in a Wal-Mart parking lot of Morgan Myers, who was pregnant with his child.
Prosecutors will drop other charges including first-degree murder and fetal homicide. But the second-degree murder charge still carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison without parole.
Last December, prosecutors announced they would not seek the death penalty in the case.
Young's attorney said in court on Monday that Young has no memory of the stabbing.
