RAPID CITY (AP) -- Rapid City's police chief says a local hookah lounge should lose its license to sell beer and wine.

Steve Allender says one of the owners of Ifrits Hookah Lounge was arrested in April for drunken driving.

A man who promoted a New Year's Eve event at the lounge was also arrested for furnishing alcohol to people who weren't old enough to drink.

The Rapid City City Council will consider whether to let the hookah lounge keep its alcohol license. It hasn't been selling drinks since late April.

The lounge is part of a separate legal fight about whether it's covered by South Dakota's statewide smoking ban.

The ban exempts tobacco shops. According to media reports, the lounge's attorney has asked a judge to rule on the issue.
