There will be a public hearing with the South Dakota Game, Fish & Parks Department May 6 to discuss the possibility of an early-Canada goose management take at Sylvan Lake Lodge in Custer State Park.
The proposed special hunt would run Aug. 14-22 and already has approval from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. It would be limited to resident hunters and would allow a daily bag limit of eight Canada geese, with a possession limit of 32.
The open area would cover Brookings, Clark, Codington, Day, Deuel, Hamlin, Grant, Kingsbury, Lake, McCook, Marshall, Minnehaha, Moody and Roberts counties.
