Probation given for Village Bowl theft
A Mitchell man was sentenced Tuesday to a suspended five-year prison term and put on probation for three years for grand theft.
Jeremiah Chasteen, 21, was given credit for the 78 days he has served in jail and was released so he could enter a treatment program in Brookings.
Chasteen stole $1,600 from a safe at Village Bowl in October using a code he knew when he was previously an employee at the business, according to court documents.
Chasteen has been ordered to pay that amount back in restitution. He was also fined $250.
