Power quickly restored after outage in Mitchell
NorthWestern Energy reported that ice buildup on power lines was the cause of a power outage early Wednesday.
About 2,300 people in northwest Mitchell lost power between 6 a.m. and 8:20 a.m., said company spokesman Tom Glanzer.
"The line got iced up and started to gallop, or bounce, in the wind," he said. That motion caused the lines to slap together or possibly touch other objects, which tripped circuit breakers designed to prevent system damage.
Line crews patrolled the area and confirmed that no lines were down before resetting the breakers and restoring power, Glanzer said.
