Platte native dies after Minnesota crash
A Platte native has died from injuries suffered in a crash last week in Minnesota.
Steven Selvig, 20, was taken to Albert Lea Medical Center in Minnesota after a pickup slammed into his car Jan. 14 on Interstate 35. He was later transported to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minn., where he died Thursday as a result of his injuries.
He was attending Dakota State University in Madison. His obituary states his home as Northwood and North Mankato, Minn.
David Vanderploeg, 62, of Hollandale, Minn., was driving his 2008 Ford pickup north on I-35 when he lost control on the icy road, according to the Minnesota State Highway Patrol.
Selvig was driving his 1997 Ford Taurus south on the interstate.
Vanderploeg crossed the median into the southbound lane and the two collided. Vanderploeg was not injured. Gevena, Minn., Fire and Rescue and the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office assisted on the scene.
Funeral services are planned for 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church, 309 N. Ninth St., Northwood, Minn. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 First Ave. S., Northwood. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the service.
