The walk is held every year in honor of Dan's brother, Staff Sgt. Greg Wagner, an Alexandria native who died in 2006 while serving in Iraq. Kassie Marek, who helped organize the event, said about 110 people signed up for the morning walk/run, and about 50 joined in the memorial ride in the afternoon. The day's events ended with the Alexandria Angels’ amateur baseball season opener in the evening. Marek, wife of Angels' manager Chris Marek, said on Sunday they did not yet know how much money was raised, but proceeds will go to the Alexandria Angels and the Wounded Warrior Project. Corey Briest, a spokesman for Wounded Warriors, was a special guest at the start of the day's events. "It opens wounds, but it's very healing," Dan Wagner said of the annual event.
