More than 460 people were served during the 13th annual Community Christmas Day Dinner Wednesday, hosted by the Mitchell Masonic Lodge and Corn Palace Shrine Club. Troy Magnuson, spokesman for the Community Christmas Day Dinner Committee, said 464 people were served. Of that number, 69 meals were delivered and 395 were served at the Masonic Lodge. Seventy-six volunteers served 90 pounds of ham, 140 pounds of turkey and countless pounds of potatoes, vegetables and other food. The cooking began at 6 a.m. The volunteers, many of whom are repeats from previous years, helped cook, serve, pour coffee and clean up, Magnuson said. The lodge was packed most of the three hours the dinner was served. Magnuson said this was the second-largest crowd the committee has served, 2012 being the largest with 474 meals served. “It just reinforces what it’s all about — fellowship and truly that no one should be alone on Christmas Day,” Magnuson said.
