Tenley Peterson, 6, a first-grader at L.B. Williams Elementary, fills a salad bowl Monday during the first night of the All-American Cafe at the school in Mitchell. Students run the restaurant as part of a project-based learning experience in which they take reservations by phone, make table centerpieces, wear specially designed T-shirts, wait on their customers, and even talk to bankers about financing. The menu includes salad, hamburgers, corn, potato wedges and apple crisp. Monday night's attendance of 179 was the largest since the annual project began 18 years ago, and reservations are still open for tonight and Thursday night by calling the school at (605) 995-3090. The cost is $7 per adult and $3 for children younger than 3, and the meal begins at 6 p.m. (Sean Ryan/The Daily Republic)
