Dakota Wesleyan University students, faculty and staff participated in the school’s annual Service Day on Tuesday in Mitchell. Alex Kuehler, 22, left, and Professor Bethany Melroe dig around a tree at the Dakota Discovery Museum to put in new mulch. They bundled up to stay warm in 40-degree, rainy weather. More than 600 people volunteered for the event, which is in its fi fth year. Volunteers picked up trash at Walmart, Dry Run Creek and soccer and baseball fields. Other locations DWU teams volunteered include: L.B. Williams, Gertie Belle Rogers and Longfellow elementary schools; Mitchell Middle School and Mitchell High School; Wesley Acres and Avera Brady Health and Rehab; First United Methodist Church; Abbott House; Dakota Discovery Museum; YWCA; Big Brothers/Big Sisters; Snack Pack Program; Area Community Theater and Mitchell Area Safehouse.
