Phil Lee Beistline
Parkston Phil Beistline, 74, died Monday, October 21 at his home in Parkston. Funeral service will be Thursday, October 24 at 10:30 am at Faith Lutheran Church in Parkston. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 23 from 5 to 7 pm with a 7:00 pm prayer service at Faith Lutheran Church in Parkston. Arrangements by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Parkston.
Phil Lee Beistline was born May 5, 1939 to Paul and Opal (Briney) Beistline in Osborne, KS. His family moved to Grand Island, NE where he attended Grand Island High School. He enlisted in the Army National Guard and began working for the CB&Q Railroad. He was united in marriage to Elaine Schritt on August 2, 1959 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Doniphan, NE. Phil continued to work for the CB&Q Railroad which eventually became the Burlington Railroad. In 1973, he moved to Chadron, NE where he opened and operated an S&S store. He transferred to O'Neil, NE in 1981 and eventually to the S&S store in Parkston, SD in 1982. He operated that store until retiring from Runnings in 2004. Phil was an avid hotrodder who enjoyed cars and trains. He was a member of the Chadron Archery Club, enjoyed bowling and archery, and was the recipient of the Millionaire's Club award for top sales. Phil went to his heavenly home on Monday, October 21, 2013 at the age of 74.
He is survived by his 2 children: Steven Beistline and wife, Teresa of Cheyenne, WY and Lisa Ketchum of Parkston; 5 grandchildren: Stephanie Zemora and husband, David of Cheyenne; Amy Beistline of Cheyenne; Kaitlyn Roberts and husband, Michael of Parkston; and Jarred and Natalie Ketchum of Parkston; 2 great-grandchildren, Cynthia Elaine Roberts and Michael Gregory Roberts Jr.; a brother, Bill Beistline of Lincoln, NE; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Meakins of Greely, CO; and several nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Elaine on October 17, 2003.
