PARKSTON — The Parkston wrestling machine kept rolling in a 62-9 win over Wagner in a dual Thursday in Parkston.

The reigning Class B state champion took seven of the 10 contested matches, as Wagner forfeited four weight classes.

The match of the night came with Wagner’s David Kocer, last year’s Class B 160-pound state champion, stepping up a weight class to challenge Parkston’s Mitch Heisinger at 182 pounds. Heisinger took a narrow victory 2-1.

“Both are really good wrestlers with Kocer being a returning state champion,” Parkston coach Jared Digmann said. “It was nice to see Mitch get up for that match and come out with the win.”

Wagner coach Brady Nolz said he planned to have Kocer bump up to take on Heisinger, seeing an opportunity to have him wrestle a strong opponent.

“They have wrestled each other since they were little kids,” Nolz said, adding this is the first time Heisinger has beaten Kocer. “It is a match that both wrestlers and the fans wanted to see.”

The win came in the Trojans’ lone dual at home this season. The team’s parents were honored with a pre-match ceremony.

“We always have a great crowd no matter where we are, and I just wish we had more home duals, but that’s just the way the schedule worked out,” Digmann said.

Parkston’s Logan Mahoney picked up a pin over Colton Frei in 42 seconds at 113 pounds. The Trojans also got wins by fall from Kyler Holzbauer (120), Jake Weber (138), Andrew Semmler (195) and Austin Bertram (285).

Blake Bietz picked up a win for Parkston with a technical fall over the Red Raiders’ Logan Kafka 18-3.

The Red Raiders started the night with a win from Benjamin Soukup at 106 pounds over Rocky Berg 4-0. Nick Dion (145) and Brady Soulek (160) also took decisions for Wagner.

Parskton heads to a quad Tuesday in West Lyon, Iowa, while Wagner will be at a tournament Saturday in Miller.
