Parkston wins Region 3B, sends 13 to state

MILLER -- The defending Class B state champion Parkston wrestling team finished first as a team at the Region 3B tournament Saturday in Miller.

The Trojans qualified 13 wrestlers for the Class B state tournament this weekend in Aberdeen. Six Parkston wrestlers placed first in their respective weight classes and the team scored 237 points, topping second place Winner, which finished with 148.

Dawson Semmler (126), Blake Bietz (132), Wes Dvorak (152), Mitch Heisinger (182), Andrew Semmler (195) and Brady Rieff (220) each took first place in their respective weight classes for the Trojans.

Winner qualified nine wrestlers for the state tournament. Sean Bice took the lone individual title for the the Warriors at 138 pounds.

Bon Homme/Scotland finished third as a team with 138.5 points, while four of the team’s wrestlers took individual regional titles. Stas Sutera (106), Duncan Stoebner (113), Austin Kaul (145) and Dan Stibral (285) each won for BHS.

Burke/Gregory qualified nine wrestlers for state, while David Kocer (170) took first for Wagner, which will send five wrestlers to state. Leo Hopkins won at 126 pounds for Andes Central. The Eagles qualified three for state. Kimball/White Lake/Platte-Geddes and Mount Vernon/Plankinton/Corsica each finished the regional with two qualifiers for state.

The Class B state tournament begins Friday in Aberdeen.
