“It felt amazing,” he said. “It was the best feeling I could have. I just knew I had nothing to lose and after I didn’t perform well Monday, I knew I had to do the best I could and it just clicked.”

Weber finished third individually, trailing leader Michael Duch, of Aberdeen Roncalli, by seven strokes.

“What a charge he made,” Parkston head coach Tyler Hockett said of Weber. “He stepped on the gas and wow. He’s going to have a future for him in college.”

All of the Trojans made a charge in the second round, fighting back from a first-day eight-stroke deficit. But Parkston fell one stroke shy of the state title, shooting a 663 after two rounds. Dell Rapids, which finished fourth in 2012, ended the tournament with a 662.

“Came down to one putt on the 18th hole and the Dell Rapids kid made it,” Hockett said. “They were the team to beat with their experience, and our kids gained some of that.

“Eighth is the best we’ve ever done as a team, so even though we came up short, I had an incredible year with these guys. I’m proud of them.”

Along with Weber, Parkston had two others finish in the top 20. Ty Kinneberg shot an 87 Tuesday for a two-day total of 163 and tied for eighth with Dakota Valley’s Ben Williams. Garret Hohn carded an 86 and tied for 18th with a final score of 170.

Winner’s Jayden Bruun tied for 12th place after shooting an 82 Tuesday for a two-round total of 166.
