Owner: Jimmy John’s to open in November
A Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwiches shop will open next month in Mitchell, the shop’s owner says.
Scott Honner, of Sioux Falls, is the owner of the planned shop, which will be in the north side of Graham’s Interstate Mobil, located at 1610 S. Burr St.
Honner also owns a Jimmy John’s in Vermillion. He doesn’t yet know the exact date the shop will open, but said it will most likely be in mid-November.
Construction at the site is about halfway complete, he said.
Last week, workers had nearly finished putting up drywall and were still doing electrical work, and installing the shop’s drivethru window, Honner said. Painting inside the shop, which is approximately 1,500 square feet, is expected to begin this week.
Once it opens, Mitchell’s Jimmy John’s will be one of only a few locations to feature the company’s new design for its sub shops, Honner said.
“It’s just basically new tile and different paint schemes,” he said. “It’s fun.”
The shop will need at least 20 to 30 employees, Honner said, and advertising for those positions will begin in a few weeks. A manager has been hired.
The delivery area for Mitchell’s Jimmy Johns, as it is at other locations, will be anywhere considered within a five-minute drive of the shop, Honner said. At the Jimmy John’s owned by Honner in Vermillion, that delivery area covers the entire city. That won’t be the case in Mitchell, as some areas will fall outside of the shop’s delivery area, he said.
“It’s going to be that awkward situation where some can, some can’t,” he said.
Only about 30 to 40 percent of Jimmy John’s business is done in the shop, with the rest being done either by delivery or drivethru, Honner said.
