Outkast Car Club event in Mitchell set for weekend
Friday through Sunday, the Outkast Car Club of Mitchell will host the seventh annual Cruise-In and Hot Rod Show.
The event is open to traditional hot rods, rat rods, street rods, gassers, customs and lead-sleds.
Registration is $25 in advance and $30 on the day of the show.
In the past, entries have come from North Dakota, Iowa, Minnesota, Wyoming, Missouri, South Dakota and three Canadian provinces.
This year, Jimmy and Kerry Keeys, owners of ACE Custom Equipment, are coming from Palmerston North, New Zealand. They only attend four shows per year in the United States.
The Miss Outkast Pageant will be held on Friday night. Ladies in their best 1950s outfit will compete for the title. Last year's winner, Diana Stone, will help crown the new winner.
Saturday begins with garage tours and show registration with a 10 a.m. parade beginning at Shopko and proceeding down Main Street with show parking downtown.
New events this year include a hula hoop contest, model car contest and a swap meet.
The hula hoop contest will be in front of the stage downtown, and the model car contest will be inside the Corn Palace from noon to 3 p.m. Entry fee is $5 per car and is open to all ages. Judging will be done by special guests and awards will be handed out at 3 p.m. at the stage on Main Street.
The swap meet will be in the parking lot on the corner of Fifth and Main.
Sellers from Mitchell's farmers market are welcome at the swap meet.
Entertainment will continue throughout Saturday and includes performances by Star Fire and Wolfman. There will be a Sock Hop from 8 p.m. to midnight starring Robbie Vee and his Rock-N-Roll Caravan in the Corn Palace.
Sunday morning will feature a garage meeting for an auction, awards and final wrap-up of the event.
