OUR VIEW: Students show us our future is bright
Monday's edition of The Daily Republic was chock-full of news about the positive weekend exploits of this area's young people.
The Mitchell High School girls' basketball team placed second in the Class AA tournament, and team leader Macy Miller ended a historic season in which she broke numerous records.
The teams from Winner and Sanborn Central/Woonsocket also placed second in their respective classes, A and B, and several other Mitchell-area teams participated in the tournaments.
Friend de Coup, the Mitchell High School show choir, ended its competition season with a second-place overall finish and awards for best vocals and best choreography at an event in Iowa.
Mitchell's Xtreme Cheer team, meanwhile, placed third in an international competition in Florida.
All of those stories are great reminders of the results that can be gained through hard work, dedication and mastery of a skill. We also recognize that while some adults are prone to doom-and-gloom predictions for the future, there is abundant cause for optimism if we simply look to our children. Through activities like those featured in Monday's edition and countless others, the young people of this area are learning valuable life lessons that they will apply someday in leadership roles throughout society.
We congratulate those who excelled in various fields of competition recently and throughout this and every school year. The children of this area have given us much to be proud of.
