One seriously injured in rollover Saturday
SPENCER -- An unidentified Georgia man was the lone victim early Saturday in a single vehicle rollover accident about three miles northwest of Spencer, at the intersection of Highway 25 and 250th Street in Hanson County.
Highway Patrol Trooper Jason Brandt said the man was driving south on Highway 25 around 2:30 a.m. when he checked a text message and lost control of his 1989 Ford pickup. The driver overcorrected after going into the west ditch. His truck then went into the east ditch, and rolled, ejecting the driver.
The driver ended up lying beside the truck, which had burst into flames. Brandt said an unidentified motorist pulled the driver away from the flaming truck. Trooper Brandt declined to identify the driver, who is from Thomaston, Ga., until family members can be notified.
He said the driver received serious back injuries. He was evacuated from the crash scene by helicopter and taken to Sanford Hospital, Sioux Falls.
Units from the Hanson County Sheriff's Office, the Salem Fire Department and Salem Ambulance also responded to the scene.
