One injured in single-vehicle rollover
ALEXANDRIA -- A Pierre man was injured Monday in a one-vehicle rollover on Interstate 90 near Alexandria.
At 11:35 a.m, Michael Nold, 55, of Pierre, was driving a 2005 Ford van pulling an enclosed utility trailer east on I-90. The van belongs to Dakota Furniture Installation, of Fort Pierre, a business of which Nold is an employee. South Dakota Highway Patrol Trooper Aaron Hanson said gusty winds likely hit the trailer as it swayed back and forth behind the van.
As the trailer swayed, Nold lost control of the vehicle. It went into the median and rolled onto its top. The trailer landed on its side, Hanson said. The van was totaled.
Nold complained of back pain at the crash site and was transferred to Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell by the Mitchell Ambulance Service. He suffered serious but non-life threatening injures, Hanson said.
Nold's passenger, Todd Scott, also an employee of Dakota Furniture Installation, was not injured.
Nold and Scott were not wearing seat belts, Hanson said. Each was cited for that.
