Officer shot during standoff in Pierre; will live
PIERRE (AP) — A standoff at a mobile home park in Pierre ended with a police officer shot and a man in custody who has been sought for questioning in a separate officer-involved shooting.
Police say the officer shot in Pierre does not have life-threatening injuries. The 27-year-old man who allegedly shot him is in custody in the Hughes County Jail. Charges are pending.
Authorities have been searching for the man after another man was shot and killed Wednesday near Fort Thompson following a vehicle chase. The FBI has released few details other than to say the man who was shot "actively engaged law enforcement" and that no officers were hurt.
The Pierre standoff began Thursday afternoon and stretched into Friday morning. Officers evacuated the mobile home park and a nearby apartment building.
