Northern's Meyer still holds NCAA wins record
ABERDEEN (AP) -- Duke's Mike Krzyzewski on Tuesday night became the winningest men's basketball coach in Division I history, but the NCAA record for now remains in the hands of former Northern State men's basketball coach Don Meyer.
The Blue Devils' 74-69 victory over Michigan State gave Krzyzewski 903 career wins, one more than his college coach and professional mentor Bob Knight.
But Meyer, who coached 38 seasons at Northern, Hamline University in St. Paul, Minn., and David Lipscomb University in Nashville, notched 923 career victories during his career.
In 2008, Meyer overcame injuries from a serious car accident that left him critically injured and resulted in the amputation of his left leg below the knee. He retired in 2010.
