She was baptized at home on May 26, 1935 with Rev. Christ Wieting officiating. The family moved to Mitchell, SD in 1937. She was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church on June 5, 1949, and graduated from Mitchell High School in 1953. Norma married Arthur Cooper Rew on July 24, 1955. She worked as a dental assistant for Drs. Boyden and Kappenman from 1953 to 1957, and as a receptionist for Drs. Gillis and Brogdon from 1958 to 1965. She worked as bookkeeper, doing all the billing and bookwork for Rew's TV & Appliance until 1981. She completed a two-year course in accounting and was Valedictorian at the Mitchell Area Vo-Tech in 1983. She worked as a part-time hostess at the Holiday Inn, and became bookkeeper for the Holiday Inn restaurant and lounge. She became the Holiday Inn property accountant in 1997 until her retirement in June, 2000.
Norma was in Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and was past president of her chapter and received Woman of the Year award; she was a member of the Mitchell Jaycettes where she held local and state offices, receiving the Outstanding Jaycette award. Served as Past Secretary and Past Treasurer of Creative Investment Ltd., and was active with the Davison County Republican Party as Treasurer and an Executive Board member. She was a member of First Lutheran Church serving as Deacon and on various committees as well as the choir. Recently she was a member of Amazing Grace Free Lutheran Church. She enjoyed Thursday afternoon card group as well as Bridge and Mah Jongg groups, and gardening. Her family gave her the most pleasure in her life. She dearly loved her parents and grandparents, her siblings and her sister-in-law, her four children, and her seven grandchildren. She was very proud of what they have accomplished and her greatest regret was that she would not be able to be with all of her grandchildren when they are married and have children of their own. Her final prayer was that they will always keep God as the center post in their lives.
Left with her loving memory are her children: Kris Weatherill (Mark Benzel) of Nashville, TN; Rev. Janine Rew-Werling (Rev. Craig Werling) of Watertown, SD; Art (Audra) Rew of Mitchell, SD; and Dan (Brenda) Rew of Mitchell, SD; her grandchildren: Emma (Mark) Nelsen, Hanna and Grant Werling; Amelia and Ashton Rew; and Ellie and Isaac Rew; her sister Mary Bailey of Sunnyvale, CA and her brother Jerry (Jo) Stahlecker of White Bear Lake, MN.
