No contested races for Mitchell City Council
There will be no contested races for seats on the Mitchell City Council in the June 3 election.
Ward 1 Councilman Steve Rice, Ward 2 Councilman Dave Tronnes and Ward 4 Councilwoman Susan Tjarks are have all filed their petitions for re-election, according to Mitchell Finance Officer Marilyn Wilson.
Former Councilman Dan Allen has also filed a petition for the Ward 3 seat being vacated by Councilman Phil Carlson, who is not seeking re-election.
With only one candidate for each of the four seats up for election, those who have filed will be automatically elected and their names will not appear on the ballot.
Mitchell has an eight-member council, with each ward having two council members who serve three-year terms.
The deadline to file petitions for the June 3 election was at 5 p.m. Tuesday. The voter-registration deadline for the election is May 19.
Candidates needed to collect 50 signatures from registered voters in their ward to get on the ballot.
There are no other positions in the city's government up for election, but voters will decide the fate of an ordinance that would allow the sale of wine on downtown sidewalks.
