No. 1 Winner edges Tri-Valley

WINNER — Nathan Galbraith scored on a 1-yard touchdown run to lift No. 1 Winner over No. 8 Tri-Valley 18-16 in a Class 11B quarterfinal football game Monday.

The Warriors (10-0) trailed 16-12 with 11:24 left in the game but Galbraith’s score gave them the victory and a spot in Saturday’s semifinal round.

Trace Meyer led Winner with 23 carries for 187 yards and one touchdown, while Galbraith had eight carries for 37 yards and two scores. Sam Naasz ran the ball 12 times for 81 yards.

Defensively, Galbraith recorded a team-high eight tackles, seven of which were solo. Shayden Drey added 7.5 tackles in the win.

Tri-Valley was led by Nick Buchmann with 16 carries for 80 yards and two touchdowns. Logan O’Hara had a team-high eight tackles and Logan Zeisler added seven.

Tri-Valley ends the season 4-6, while Winner hosts No. 5 Canton Saturday in the semifinal round of the playoffs.

AVON — After trailing 8-6 after the opening quarter, the second-seeded Avon Pirates scored 40 unanswered points to defeat No. 7 Dell Rapids St. Mary 46-8 in a Class 9B quarterfinal football game Monday.

Avon’s Brandon Kocmich and Devin Tolsma led the way on the ground. Kocmich had 21 carries for 157 yards and two touchdowns, while Tolsma had 13 carries for 147 yards and three scores.

Defensively, Tolsma led in tackles with 11.5 and Kocmich followed with 9.5. Jacob Knodel added seven tackles and Alex Balvin had five in the win.

Josh Brown led the Cardinals with 18 carries for 83 yards and one touchdown. Jared Scholten had a team-high 10 tackles in the loss.

Avon (10-0) hosts No. 3 Wall in a semifinal game Saturday, while Dell Rapids St. Mary ends its season 8-2.

Howard 56, New Underwood 6

HOWARD — Luke Loudenburg had 14 carries for 198 yards and four touchdowns as No. 2 Howard defeated No. 7 New Underwood 56-6 in a Class 9A semifinal football game Monday.

Loudenburg, a junior, broke the school career rushing record during the contest. Doug Carlson previously held the record of 3,730, which was set in 2004. Loudenburg’s total career yards was not available.

Jordan Kuhle ran nine times for 190 yards and two touchdowns for Howard. Taylor Henkel had a receiving touchdown, while Nick Pardy had 10 tackles and Bailey Neises had eight tackles.

For New Underwood, Travis Smith led in passing, completing 3 of 8 passes for 108 yards and a touchdown pass to Tanner Bridley.

The game was ended due to mercy rule in the third quarter.

Howard (10-0) hosts No. 3 Potter County in a semifinal game Saturday, while New Underwood ends its season 7-3.

WHITE — No. 3 Deubrook Area beat No. 6 Kimball/White Lake 57-20 in a Class 9AA quarterfinal football game Monday night.

Turner Blasius had 14 tackles and Noah Munsen had seven tackles for Kimball/White Lake. Eathen Gaulke ran 22 times for 136 yards and two touchdowns and Blasius had 14 carries for 81 yards.

No stats were available for Deubrook Area.

Kimball/White Lake ends the season 7-3 and Deubrook Area (9-1) plays No. 2 Arlington Saturday in the semifinals.

GREGORY — Kurt Braun led the charge with 17 carries for 168 yards and a total of three touchdowns as top-ranked Gregory beat No. 8 Menno-Marion 43-12 in a Class 9AA quarterfinal football game Monday.

Gregory’s Paul Taggart had 13 carries for 85 yards and Brandon Warnke had 16 tackles. Braun also tallied 10 tackles in the win.

For Menno-Marion, Dylan Lehr had four carries for 107 yards and Nick Gortmaker was 6-for-20 passing for 106 yards and two interceptions. Chet Peterson led all players with 24 tackles.

Gregory (9-1) hosts Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan in the semifinal round Saturday and Menno-Marion ends its season 5-5.

Burke/South Central ends its season 7-3. Harding County (8-2) plays No. 1 Hamlin in the semifinals Saturday.
