PIERRE (AP) — South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard has signed a new law to tweak the policy governing the state's pregnancy help centers.

The law forbids the centers from lining up adoptions. It will take effect in July.

The centers are designed to provide neutral counseling to women who have sought an abortion. The law requiring counseling for those seeking abortions is currently being challenged in court.

There are two registered pregnancy help centers in the state. Existing law prevents those centers from performing abortions or referring clients to get abortions.

The measure's sponsor says it will ensure that pregnancy help centers cannot profit from adoptions either.
