All scores will expire if the tester has not taken and has not passed all five required tests by this time. Those needing to complete one or more of the tests should immediately start the registration process.

"The new tests will be more rigorous," said State Labor and Regulation Secretary Pam Roberts. "Testers need to start working with their local test centers to either complete this series or start preparing for the new series."

The new GED test will be available on computer only. Paper and pencil tests will no longer be offered.

"If any test taker is uncomfortable using a computer, now is the time to start brushing up on skills to become more computer literate," Roberts said. "Our Department of Labor and Regulation local offices offer tutorials to improve computer skills."

The GED credential is recognized across the nation as an equivalent to a high school diploma. Seventeen test centers exist in South Dakota. To view a testing center directory, visit http://dlr.sd.gov/workforce_training/ged_testing_test_centers.aspx.
