New federal charges made in Pierre standoff case
PIERRE (AP) — A new federal court indictment charges an Eagle Butte man with 19 counts stemming from a shootout and a standoff that occurred in late October.
KCCR reports that the grand jury indictment of 27-year-old Jason Todd Garreau covers two cases. One was a Hyde County shootout with law enforcement officers Oct. 30, in which a 24-yearold Dupree man was killed. The other is a nine-hour standoff with law enforcement that occurred Oct. 31 at a Pierre trailer home in which gunfire was exchanged and one Pierre police officer was hurt.
Garreau had initially pleaded not guilty to six felony gun-related counts and was scheduled to stand trial Jan. 14.
He’s being held in the Hughes County Jail and will be arraigned on the new charges at a later date.
