Nelson raises more than $28K during first quarter
SIOUX FALLS (AP) — State Rep. Stace Nelson of Fulton raised more than $28,400 for his campaign for a U.S. Senate seat during the first three months of 2014.
Nelson's Federal Election Commission report shows he spent just under $28,800 during the quarter ending March 31, leaving him cash on hand of slightly more than $33,400. His report showed no campaign debt.
Nelson is one of five Republicans seeking the nomination for the seat being vacated by the retiring Sen. Tim Johnson. Also seeking the GOP nod are former Gov. Mike Rounds, state Sen. Larry Rhoden of Union Center, Sioux Falls physician Annette Bosworth and Yankton attorney and soldier Jason Ravnsborg.
Rick Weiland is the sole Democratic candidate, and former Republican U.S. Sen. Larry Pressler is running as an independent.
