ND Sen. Heitkamp to speak at McGovern Day next month in Sioux Falls
North Dakota U.S. Sen. Heidi Heitkamp will speak at this year's McGovern Day Dinner in Sioux Falls.
The event, set for April 20, is an annual celebration of the late senator, who spoke at the dinner last year, as well as a fundraiser for the South Dakota Democratic Party.
Sen. Tim Johnson will also speak at the dinner, which will be held at the Sioux Falls Convention Center, 1101 N. West Ave.
Heitkamp, 57, is a former two-term North Dakota attorney general who also ran for governor in 2000. She was elected to the Senate in a close race last fall, defeating Republican Rep. Rick Berg.
Heitkamp has some ties to South Dakota.
She hired Tessa Gould as her chief of staff, a post Gould held under former South Dakota congresswoman Stephanie Herseth Sandlin.
Whitney Phillips, another former Herseth Sandlin staffer, is Heitkamp's communications director.
Tickets are $30 for lunch with legislators at noon; $250 for a VIP reception at 5:30 p.m.; $120 for a Founders Club reception at 6 p.m.; and $65 for the McGovern Day dinner at 6:30 p.m. Tables of eight will be available for $500.
