National water trail designation gives Missouri River a boost
YANKTON (AP) — A stretch of the Missouri River has been declared a water trail — one of only 14 nationwide.
The Press & Dakotan reported the Missouri National Recreation River Water Trail is the third water trail established by the National Park Service this year.
This designation applies to 147 miles of the river between the spillways at Ft. Randall Dam to the channeled river in Sioux City, Iowa.
Officials hope the addition to the water trails system will boost the profile of the park.
