MV/P conquers field at Marion tournament

MARION — Mount Vernon/Plankinton defeated Marion 2-0 to win the championship game at the Marion Invitational Saturday.

Set scores were 28-26, 25-17.

MVP was led by Dani Stoltz, who recorded eight kills. Mikayla Weiss added one kill and 19 assists.

Erica Schoenwald led the way for the Bears, recording 13 kills, 12 digs and one ace.

Renae Kayser added four kills, 16 assists and six digs. Kaityln Engbrecht chipped in with five assists, eight digs and two aces.

MVP (14-2) plays Chamberlain Thursday in Chamberlain.

Marion (7-6) hosts Freeman Academy today in Marion.

Mount Vernon/Plankinton 2, Bridgewater-Emery 0

MARION —Mount Vernon/Plankinton defeated Bridgewater-Emery in two sets Saturday at the Marion Invitational.

Set scores were 25-22, 25-21.

Mikayla Weiss had 19 assists and one ace for MVP. Dani Stoltz added six kills, while Megan Bultsma had three blocks.

Bridgewater-Emery was led by Justine Dye. Dye had six kills, two blocks, eight digs. Aly Hanssen chipped in with eight assists, while Chesney Arend 14 digs.

MVP plays Chamberlain Thursday in Chamberlain. Bridgewater-Emery host Canistota Tuesday in Bridgewater.

Marion 2, Avon 1

MARION — Devin Nelson and Erica Schoenwald each had 12 kills to help Marion beat Avon 2-1 Saturday at the Marion Invitational.

Set scores were 16-25, 25-22, 25-20.

Nelson also finished with nine digs and three aces, while Schoenwald had two blocks, one assists and 11 digs.

Kaitlyn Engebrecht added two kills, 16 assists and 21 digs for Marion.

Ariana Oorlog led the way for Avon. She recorded seven kills, six digs and one ace. Heidi Cap added four kills, four blocks and three digs. Chesney Nagel chipped in with three kills, one block, one assists and seven digs.

Avon (6-7) hosts Mitchell Christian today in Avon. Marion hosts Freeman Academy today in Marion.

Avon 2, Andes Central 1

MARION — The Avon Pirates defeated Andes Central in two sets Saturday at the Marion Invitational.

Set scores were 25-17, 25-20.

Chesney Nagel had eight kills, three blocks and four digs for Avon. Ariana Oorlog added four kills, one block, one ace and eight digs.

Andes Central was led by Emily Houseman. She recorded nine assists and seven digs. Dennisha Johanneson added nine kills and four digs.

Andes Central plays Freeman Tuesday in Freeman, while Avon hosts Mitchell Christian today in Avon.

Andes Central 2, Canistota 0

MARION — The Andes Central Eagles defeated Canistota in two sets Saturday at the Marion Invitational.

Set scores were 25-22, 25-19.

Morgan Larson had 10 assists and two digs to lead the way for Canistota. Breanna Buseman added four blocks, while Chloe Nielsen had three kills.

Sadie Anderson also had three kills for the Hawks.

No stats were reported for Andes Central.

Canistota (5-8) plays Bridgewater-Emery Tuesday in Bridgewater, while Andes Central plays Freeman Tuesday in Freeman.

Canistota 2, Menno 0

MARION — The Canistota Hawks beat the Menno Wolves in two sets Saturday at the Marion Invitational.

Set scores were 25-18, 25-19.

Chloe Nielsen had five kills to lead the way for Canistota. Sydney Randall added 10 digs and three aces, while Morgan Larson had 10 assists.

Abby Herrboldt had three kills, two assists, four digs and four aces for the Wolves. Tara Spencer chipped in with two kills, two blocks, two digs and one assist.

Canistota plays Bridgewater-Emery Tuesday in Bridgewater, while Menno (2-12) plays Marion Tuesday in Marion.

Platte-Geddes 2, Dakota Christian 0

MARION — The Platte-Geddes Black Panthers beat Dakota Christian in two sets Saturday at the Marion Invitational.

Set scores were 25-18, 25-17.

Josie DeGroot had seven kills, three blocks and two digs to lead the way for Platte-Geddes. Brianna Erickson added five kills, four digs and two aces. Cassidy Plooster chipped in with two kills, seven assists and one ace.

Abbie BaanHofman, Brooklyn Vander Pol and Kaitlyn Berens each had two kills for Dakota Christian. Germaine Niewenhuis added six assists and one ace.

Platte-Geddes plays Parkston Tuesday in Parkston. Dakota Christian hosts Corsica/Stickney today in New Holland.

Menno 2, Dakota Christian 1

MARION — The Menno Wolves rallied to defeat Dakota Christian in three sets Saturday at the Marion Invitational.

Set scores were 17-25, 25-21, 25-19.

Madison Huber had four kills, six assists and seven digs to lead the way for Menno. Devon Bloch and Tara Spencer each had five kills, while Abby Herrboldt had three kills, two assists, nine digs and four aces.

Abbi BaanHofman had nine kills, two blocks, two assists, five digs and one ace to lead the way for Dakota Christian.

Brooklyn Vander Pol added six kills, five digs and two aces for the Cadets. Kennedy Muckey had three kills and two digs.

Menno plays Marion Tuesday in Marion, while Dakota Christian hosts Corsica/Stickney today in New Holland.

MARION — The Mount Vernon/Plankinton volleyball team beat Menno in two sets Saturday at the Marion Invitational.

Set scores were 25-15, 25-9.

Jazmin Waite and Jordan Achterberg each had three kills for MVP. Mikayla Weiss, Makaela Karst and Megan Bultsma each added two kills for MVP.

Devon Bloch had two kills and one block for Menno. Madison Huber added three kills, three digs and two aces, while Tara Spencer had one kill, four

blocks, and two digs.

MVP plays Chamberlain Thursday in Chamberlain, Menno plays Marion Tuesday in Marion.

Avon 2, Menno 0

MARION — Ariana Oorlog had six kills, one block, seven digs and six aces to help Avon beat Menno in two sets Saturday at the Marion Invitational.

Chesney Nagel chipped in with four kills, five digs and two aces. Heidi Cap added 14 assists and three digs, while Amanda Reiff had three kills and six digs.

Menno was led by Abby Herrboldt. She recorded three kills, four digs and one ace. Madison Huber added five assists, eight digs, one ace and one block.

Avon hosts Mitchell Christian today in Avon, while Menno plays Marion Tuesday in Marion.

Mount Vernon/Plankinton 2, Avon 1

MARION — Dani Stoltz recorded 11 kills to help Mount Vernon/Plankinton beat Avon in three sets Saturday at the Marion Invitational.

Set scores were 25-17, 15-25, 25-20.

Jordan Achterberg added seven kills and three aces for MVP. Makaela Karst had eight kills, while Mikayla Weiss registered five blocks.

Chesney Nagel had six kills, four blocks, two assists and five digs to lead the way for Avon.

Ariana Oorlog chipped in with five kills, three blocks, 12 digs and two aces.

Hanna Powers added 13 assists, seven digs and three aces.

MVP plays Chamberlain Thursday in Chamberlain, while Avon hosts Mitchell Christian today in Avon.

Marion 2, Platte-Geddes 0

MARION — The Marion Bears beat Platte-Geddes in two sets Saturday at the Marion Invitational.

Set scores were 26-24, 25-19.

Kaitlyn Engbrecht led the way for Marion. She recorded 14 assists, eight digs and one ace. Devin Nelson added five kills, nine digs and five aces for

the Bears. Erica Schoenewald also had nine kills, three blocks, eight digs and two aces for Marion.

Josie DeGroot had four kills, two blocks and six digs for Platte. Shelby Johnson added three kils, one block and nine digs for the Black Panthers. Kiera Hubers chipped in with four kills, two blocks and one dig.

Marion hosts Freeman Academy today in Marion, while Platte-Geddes plays Parkston Tuesday in Parkston.

Bridgewater-Emery 2, Platte-Geddes 0

MARION — The Bridgewater-Emery Huskies defeated Platte-Geddes in two sets Saturday at the Marion Invitational.

Set scores were 25-19, 25-19.

Justine Dye and Tiana Kayser each had five kills for the Huskies. Kelsi Kotas led the team with six kills, while Aly Hanssen had 12 assists. Chesney Arend chpped in with 12 digs.

Josie DeGroot led the Black Panthers with five kills, two blocks, 10 digs and one ace.

Cassidy Plooster added three kills, four assists and one dig. Shelby Johnson chipped in with two kills, six digs and one ace.

Andes Central was led by Dennisha Johanneson. She recorded seven kills, one block and four digs. Payton Johanneson had three kills, one block and two aces.

Bridgewater-Emery host Canistota Tuesday in Bridgewater, Andes Central plays Freeman Tuesday in Freeman.

Sunshine Bible Academy 3,

Wessington Springs 0

MILLER — The Wessington Springs Spartans fell to Sunshine Bible Academy in three sets Saturday at the 281 conference tournament.

Set scores were 25-22, 25-22, 25-20.

Shyenne Brodkorb and Devin Tebay each had four kills to lead the way for the Spartans.

Jenna Teveldal added two aces, while Morgan Tebay and Lexi Olinger each had nine assists. Sam Moody and Brodkorb chipped in with six digs.

Wessington Springs (5-14) hosts Ethan Tuesday in Wessington Springs.

James Valley Christian 3, Wessington Springs 2

MILLER — The James Valley Christian volleyball team beat Wessington Springs in five sets Saturday at the 281 conference tournament.

Set scores were 27-25, 25-222, 18-25, 17-25, 15-8.

Shyenne Brodkorb had 12 kills and one block to lead the way for Wessington Springs. Jaycee Hohn chipped in with four aces, while Devin Tebay had eight kills. Lexi Olinger had 19 assists and Morgan Tebay had 13 assists, while Monica Jones had 15 digs.

Wessington Springs (5-14) hosts Ethan Tuesday in Wessington Springs.

Sanborn Central/Woonscoket 3, Wolsey-Wessington 1

FORESTBURG — Morgan Selland had 14 kills to help Sanborn Central/Woonsocket defeat Wolsey-Wessington in four sets Saturday at the 281 conference tournament.

Set scores were 25-20, 20-25, 25-10, 25-20.

Marissa Weber chipped in with 11 kills and nine aces, while Rachel Selland had assists, 15 digs and three aces.

Savannah Swenson added 16 digs and three aces for the Blackhawks.

Brittany Bergquist led the way for Wolsey-Wessington. She recorded eight kills and two blocks. Bailey Zerfoss added seven digs and 3 aces for W-W.

Wolsey-Wessington plays Iroquois Tuesday in Iroquois. SCW plays Sunshine Bible Academy Tuesday in Forestburg.

Hitchcock-Tulare 3, Sanborn Central/Woonsocket 2

FORESTBURG — The Sanborn Central/Woonsocket Blackhawks fell to Hitchcock-Tulare in five sets Saturday at the 281 conference tournament.

Set scores were 13-25, 25-19, 25-17, 24-26, 15-11.

Marissa Weber led the way for the Blackhawks. She recorded 15 kills and three aces. Morgan Selland chipped in with 11 kills, while Myah Selland had 10 kills and 13 blocks. Rachel Selland added 25 assists, 28 digs and two aces.

Hitchcok-Tulare was led by LaMour Binger. She recorded 13 kills, six blocks, and six digs. Taylor Knippling chipped in with 11 kills and six digs, while Kaytlyn Boomsma had nine kills and three blocks.

SCW (11-6) plays Sunshine Bible Academy Tuesday in Forestburg. H-T (13-7) plays Lake Preston today in Lake Preston.

Wagner 3, Tri-Valley 0

COLTON — The Wagner volleyball team defeated Tri-Valley in three sets Saturday.

Set scores were 30-28, 25-19, 25-19.

Leading the way for the Red Raiders was Emily Brunsing. Brunsing recorded eight kills and one block. Brooklyn Tolliver added 20 digs, while Kayla Deurmeier had 15 digs and 14 assists for Wagner.

Tri-Valley was led by Emma Johnson, who recorded seven kills, two aces and five assists.

Tri-Valley (10-6) plays Garretson today in Garretson. Wagner (13-4) plays Tripp-Delmont/Armour today in Armour.
