Mitchell Technical Institute's Heating and Cooling Technology program has been granted accreditation by the HVAC Excellence organization. After review of a self-study and an on-site evaluation in early May, the program was accredited for six years, the maximum length of time for which the organization grants accredited status.

Instructors of the program at MTI, Jason Juhnke and Ron Thury, worked for more than a year preparing for the on-site evaluation.

The HVACR Excellence evaluators reviewed the program against a set of educational and industry standards including mission of the program, administrational responsibilities, finances and funds, student services, instructional design and program elements, physical facilities, equipment and tools, cooperative training and instructor qualifications.

The accreditation allows the program to provide students with quality assurance; to provide employers assurance that graduates are properly trained; to assist in establishing articulation agreements; to support determination of funding eligibility; to help increase enrollment, student placement and employer satisfaction; to foster faculty participation in self-study and annual reporting; to help students earn and transfer credit; and to create goals for self-improvement.

"Accreditations such as these are invaluable to the success and reputation of our programs," MTI President Greg Von Wald said. "The HVAC Excellence endorsement means that employers in the HVAC industry will immediately know the high quality and high value of MTI's Heating and Cooling Technology program. Students will benefit by receiving excellent instruction in well equipped labs, with immediate opportunities for employment after graduation."
