Monday's state amateur baseball roundup: Wynot, Irene advance

Brett Scherschligt, a pick-up player from Freeman, pitched a four-hit shutout with two strikeouts to help Wynot (Neb.) to a 7-0 win against Akron (Iowa) in a second-round game at the Class B South Dakota state amateur baseball tournament Monday in Mitchell.

Scott Heimes finished the game with three RBIs for the Expos, while Lee Heimes and Chase Rolfes each recorded two hits in the win.

Tyler Streuman took the loss on the mound for the Akron Rebels. Streuman allowed four runs on four hits and six walks through 7 1/3 innings. He struck out seven hitters. Noah Bohlman had three of Akron's four hits as the team ended its season at 15-3.

Wynot improves to 17-11 and takes on Irene at 8 p.m. Thursday in Mitchell.


Three Larchwood errors led to three Irene runs to help the Cardinals edge the Diamonds 3-2 in Class B state amateur baseball tournament action Monday night in Mitchell.

Jack Huether picked up the win for Irene, throwing eight innings and giving up two runs on four hits and six walks while striking out six. Tyler Edler recorded the save to move the Cardinals to 16-11 on the year and into the quarterfinals to take on Wynot (Neb.) at 8 p.m. Thursday in Mitchell.

Kyle Jensen took the loss for Larchwood, giving up three unearned runs on one hit and seven walks through 6 1/3 innings. Jensen recorded five strikeouts for Larchwood, which finishes the season with a 10-11 record.
