Monday's sports briefs: Sadler, Herll compete at Regionals
FARGO, N.D. — A pair of Mitchell’s MEGA Gymnastics team members competed at the Region 4 Regionals over the weekend in Fargo, N.D.
Mitchell high school junior Rebecca Sadler placed on vault, tying for 13th with a score of 9.0. She finished 23rd in her Level 8 group with a score of 34.4. She scored a 8.75 on uneven bars, 8.225 on the balance beam and 8.425 on the floor exercise.
Sophomore Quinci Herll took 18th in Level 9 with an all-around with a score of 32.675. She scored 8.7 on vault, 7.725 on uneven bars, 7.550 on the balance beam and 8.7 on the floor exercise.
Both gymnasts were a part of the Mitchell High School state championship team earlier this year.
Tiger track competes at Sioux City Relays
SIOUX CITY, Iowa — The Dakota Wesleyan University track and field team competed at the Sioux City Relays Saturday in Sioux City Iowa.
The event saw several athletes come away with finishes that rank in the top 10 in the DWU history.
Ariana Arampatzis took 16th in the women’s pole vault with a height of 9 feet, one half inch, good enough for second best in Tiger history. She also finished 17th in the javelin with a mark of 102-4 or fifth best ever at DWU.
Ryan Antaya recorded the seventh-best hammer throw in the school’s outdoor history, finishing 18th with a toss of 125-3 on the men’s side. Kellan Willet was the top finisher for DWU, taking ninth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 16 minutes, 51.58 seconds.
The Tigers are back in action at the Red Raider Open, hosted by Northwestern College Wednesday and Thursday in Orange City, Iowa.
Hanson County baseball wins two
MOUNT VERNON — The Hanson County Ducks baseball team won a pair of games Saturday in Mount Vernon.
The Ducks (4-4) defeated Bon Homme 4-3 in the first game, with Jerrod Zens, Marshall Miller and Wyatt Kayser each finishing with two hits. Miller pitched the complete game, allowing three runs, two of them earned on seven hits and striking out four.
In the second game, Hanson County topped Mount Vernon 11-4, with Tanner Miller going 3-for-4 with four RBIs, while Levi Doyle went 3-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored.
The Ducks play a doubleheader against Menno at 2 p.m. Friday in Alexandria.
