DWU falls to Neb. Wesleyan in four
The Dakota Wesleyan University women’s volleyball team dropped a close four-set match to Nebraska Wesleyan for the Tiger’s seventh straight loss Saturday in Mitchell.
The set scores were 22-25, 25-17, 25-14, 25-23.
The Tigers (4-12, 0-3 GPAC) were led by Sarah Kruse and Mallory Jark, each finishing with 14 kills. Brianna Jung added 40 assists for DWU, while Taylor Spence had a match-high 19 digs for the Tigers.
DWU plays Morningside College at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Sioux City, Iowa.
MHS tennis splits in home triangular
The Mitchell High School girls’ tennis team took one of two matches Saturday at Hitchcock Park in Mitchell.
The Kernels fell 7-2 to Yankton before defeating Spearfish 8-1.
Mitchell (5-10, 2-7 ESD) went 4-2 in doubles matches with the Flight 2 team of Haley Smith and Allison Buckley winning both of its matches on the day.
Buckley also swept her singles matches at Flight 5.
Mitchell plays Huron and Aberdeen Roncalli at 2 p.m. today in Huron.
MHS cheer takes 7th, dance 12th in Brookings
BROOKINGS — The Mitchell High School competitive cheer and dance teams took seventh and 12th place at the Brooking Invitational Saturday.
The Kernels’ cheer squad finished the competition with 174 points, and Brookings took first with a score of 194.
Platte-Geddes/Dakota Christian took 10th with 161 points, while Bon Homme and Mount Vernon/Plankinton finished 13th and 14th, respectively.
Mitchell’s dance team scored 132.83 points for 12th, while Sioux Falls Washington claimed the title with 280.5 points. The Black Panthers were eighth with 188.67 points.
The Kernels will be at the Huron Invitational Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in Huron.
DWU men suffer 2nd loss at MVC
MARSHALL, Mo. — The Dakota Wesleyan University men’s soccer team was out played throughout the game for the first time this season, as the Tigers fells 8-0 to Missouri Valley College Sunday in Marshall, Missouri.
The Tigers’ (4-2-1) only previous loss came in overtime earlier this season to William Penn University
MVC took a 2-0 lead into halftime before netting six second-half goals en route to the victory.
DWU managed just four shots, while MVC let 37 loose on Tiger goalkeepers Alex Nelson and Eric Fjerestad.
The Tigers play Grace University at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Mitchell Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex.
MHS boys fall to Aberdeen Central
The Mitchell High School boys’ soccer team lost 7-0 to Aberdeen Central Saturday at the Mitchell Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex.
The Kernels (2-6-2) were unable to get their offense moving forward, managing four shots in the game.
Goalkeepers Cole Carlson and Luke Novak split the time in net for Mitchell, combining for 17 saves.
Mitchell coach Jason Wear named Novak the man of the match after his performance in the second half, allowing just one goal on 11 shots.
The Kernels play their final home game of the season against James Valley Christian at 8 p.m. today at the Mitchell Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex.
