SDSU men top WIU 62-50
MACOMB, Ill. (AP) — Jordan Dykstra scored 16 of his 20 points in the second half and grabbed 13 rebounds as South Dakota State ran away from Western Illinois for a 62-50 win Saturday night.
Jake Bittle finishd with 18 points and eight rebounds for South Dakota State (16-10, 8-3 Summit). The Jackrabbits shot 37 percent from the field (17 of 46) and was just 2 of 10 from long range, but held a decisive edge on the boards — outrebounding the Leathernecks 44-27.
Mike Miklusak and Garret Covington each scored 12 points to lead Western Illinois (9-16, 3-7), which shot 15 of 47 from the field (31.9 percent) and just 4 of 17 from long range.
Coyote men hold off IUPUI for win
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Trevor Gruis scored 18 points and South Dakota withstood a late rally from Indiana University/Purdue University of Indianapolis for a 71-67 win on Saturday.
South Dakota (10-15, 4-6 Summit League) led 64-54 before IUPUI (6-22, 1-10) closed the game on a 13-7 run.
Larson scored 13 for the Coyotes. Tyler Flack had 12 and Trey Norris added 10.
Marlin girls drop two at home
The Mitchell Marlin girls’ hockey team fell to Watertown and Aberdeen on back-to-back days over the weekend at the Mitchell Activities Center.
Aberdeen topped Mitchell 7-6 Sunday, scoring three unanswered goals to secure the win. Kylie Barington scored three goals for the hat trick and added three assists in the loss, while Haley Stahl added two goals and two assists for the Marlins.
The Marlins dropped their Saturday contest to Watertown Saturday 9-2, as Stahl picked up both tallies for Mitchell.
The Marlins (1-18) will look to break their 15-game losing streak against Oahe Sunday in Pierre.
Three Tigers set bests at Dordt
SIOUX CENTER, Iowa — The Dakota Wesleyan University indoor track team had three member post personal bests in the team’s final warm up prior to the Great Plains Athletic Conference Indoor Championships.
Paul Apenhorst finished ninth in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.54 seconds, which is the second-fastest time in DWU men’s track history.
Skyler Forgey took seventh in the 400-meter dash, finishing in a time of 1 minute, 4.74 seconds, while Brenna Martin placed seventh in the weight throw with a mark of 42 feet, 5.5 inches.
The Tigers next compete at the GPAC Indoor Championships Friday and Saturday in Crete, Neb.
Chamberlain gymnastics takes Region 2 title
WAGNER — The Chamberlain gymnastics team broke the school’s scoring record while taking first at the Class A Region 2 meet Saturday in Wagner.
The Cubs scored 133 points as a team and swept the individual events, as Chamberlain heads into the state meet starting Friday in Aberdeen.
Chamberlain senior Marilyn Nasomwat scored 34.6 to win the all-around, while also taking individual titles in the floor, uneven bars and vault. Shantel Bairey took second in the all-around with a 34.5 for Chamberlain, while also winning on the balance beam.
Wagner finished fifth as a team with 120.950 points. Hannah Fleming was the highest Red Raider finisher in the all-around with a score of 31.675.
BH/S wrestling finishes first at Holland Invite
HOWARD — Bon Homme/Scotland had three wrestlers take home titles and the team finished first at the Holland Invitational Saturday in Howard.
Duncan Stoebner (113), Alex Caba (120) and Dan Stribel (285) each won their individual weight classes for BHS.
Howard had four wrestlers take home individual titles including Bailey Neises (126), Luke Loudenburg (132), Tanner Henkel (160) and Kaleb Haas (170). The Tigers finished third as a team.
Mount Vernon/Plankinton/Corsica’s Marcus Urban won at the 106-pound weight class.
