Marlin boys win second straight

The Mitchell Marlin boys’ hockey team took its second win in as many nights with a 4-2 victory over Oahe Saturday at the Mitchell Activities Center.

Four different Marlins (4-5) scored in the win, including Jacob Cersosimo, Jordan Grosdidier, Cole Carlson and Alex Murtha. Jacob Rice and Carlson each picked up an assist.

Tate Sutherland picked up the win in net for Mitchell, stopping 24-of-26 shots faced.

The Marlins play Aberdeen at 3 p.m. Saturday in Aberdeen.

Brookings defeats Marlin girls

BROOKINGS — The Mitchell Marlin girls hockey team fell to Brookings for the second straight night.

The Rangers got four goals from Kailey Schiesl in the 8-2 win.

Haley Stahl scored twice for the Marlins in the loss. Stahl has 22 goals in 10 games this season.

Mitchell (1-10) plays the first of three games in three nights against Rushmore Friday at the Mitchell Activities Center.

Tiger wrestlers finish 1-3 at Nebraska-Kearney duals

KEARNEY, Neb. — The Dakota Wesleyan University wrestling team won one and lost three matches at the University of Nebraska-Kearney duals Saturday.

The Tigers opened with a 28-20 win over Colby Community College. Will Seydel (125) and Trevor DeVestern (165) each picked up wins by pin in the victory for DWU.

York beat DWU 29-16, while the Tigers also fell to Bethany (33-3) and Chadron State (37-3).

DWU travels to Briar Cliff University for a Great Plains Athletic Conference dual at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Sioux City, Iowa.

Kerri Young scores 11 in Jacks win over Nebraska-Omaha

OMAHA, Neb. — Mitchell native Kerri Young scored 11 points off the bench to help lift the South Dakota State University women’s basketball team over the University of Nebraska-Omaha 80-66 Saturday.

Young added two rebounds, two assists and a steal in the Summit league win.

The Jackrabbits (13-7, 4-0 Summit) got a career-high 21 points from Steph Paluch, while 14 points from Mariah Clarin in the team’s fourth-straight win.

UNO was led by Ericka House with 13 points.

SDSU plays North Dakota State University at 2 p.m. Saturday in Fargo, N.D.

Mavericks beat Jackrabbit men

BROOKINGS — Brayden Carlson scored a career-high 26 points for the South Dakota State University men’s basketball team in an 80-71 loss in Summit League play to the University of Nebraska-Omaha Saturday in Brookings.

Cody Larson added 14 points, while Jordan Dykstra chipped in 12 for SDSU in the team’s 22nd annual Lamb Bonanza.

UNO had four players finish in double-figures, led by Marcus Tyrus with 16 points.

SDSU (10-9, 2-2 Summit) plays North Dakota State University at 4 p.m. Saturday in Brookings.

USD men atop Summit after win over Fort Wayne

VERMILLION — The University of South Dakota men’s basketball team topped Fort Wayne 75-61 Saturday in Vermillion.

The Coyotes are in first place as the lone undefeated team remaining in Summit League play.

Senior forward Karim Rowson scored a career-high 21 points in the win for USD, while Brandon Bos added 13 points.

Luis Jacobo scored 19 points to lead Fort Wayne.

USD (8-9, 3-0 Summit) plays Western Illinois Thursday in Macomb, Ill.

Mastodons top USD women 96-78

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — The University of South Dakota women’s basketball team fell to Fort Wayne 96-78 in Summit League action Saturday.

The Mastodons got 35 points from Haley Seibert, while Amanda Hyde added 23 points.

USD (9-9, 0-3 Summit) was led by Polly Harrington, who scored a game-high 24 points. Raeshel Contreras added 17 points in the loss.

The Coyotes play Western Illinois at 7 p.m. Thursday in Vermillion.
