Fossum, Antaya win for DWU track in indoor opener

SPEARFISH — The Dakota Wesleyan University track team opened its indoor season at the Myrle Hansen Memorial Open Saturday in Spearfish.

Jesse Fossum and Ryan Antaya each came away with a win for the Tigers.

Fossum took first in the long jump with a mark of 16-feet-5-inches, the sixth best in school history. Fossum also finished third in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 10.45 seconds.

Antaya won the weight throw with a distance of 47-feet-8-inches. 

The Tigers will next compete at the Northern State Open Friday in Aberdeen.

3 area wrestlers win at Mid Dakota Monster tourney

PREHSO — Three area wrestlers claimed individual titles at the Mid Dakota Monster wrestling tournament Saturday.

Lyman’s Jordan Jessop and Winner’s Sean Bice and Scott Assman each won titles Saturday.

Jessop, 120 pounds, claimed the title after defeating Dion Nemec of O’Neil. Bice beat Stanley County’s Michael Scott by tech fall. Assman claimed his win over Philip’s Logan Ammons by fall.

Philip Area won the team title with a score of 268 points, while Winner came in second.

Burke/Gregory takes team title at Miller/Highmore Harrold/Invite

MILLER — The Burke/Gregory wrestling team claimed the team title at the Miller/Highmore-Harrold Invite Saturday.

Burke/Gregory scored 160.50 points. Howard came in second with 142 points and Wagner finished third with 133.50.

Burke/Gregory was led by Atlas Wiluweit (106) and Kurt Braun (138), who each claimed individual titles.

Howard’s Bailey Neises (126), Luke Loudenberg (132), Tanner Henkel (160) and Nick Pardy (195) each won titles. Wagner’s David Kocer (170) and Trevor Lensing (182) and Andes Central’s Trezen Dorne (285) also won championships.

Stoebner, Stibral claim titles at Invitational

BRANDON — Bon Homme/Scotland’s Duncan Stoebner and Dan Stibral each won individual wrestling titles at the Dan Pansch/Jesse James Invitational Saturday.

Stoebner claimed the 113-pound title after beating Sioux Falls Roosevelt’s Kahlen Morris by decision.

Stibral beat Canton’s Chase Beitzel by fall in the 285-pound final.

Bon Homme/Scotland finished second behind Huron in the team rankings.

Five Parkston wrestlers take first at Madison JV Invitational

MADISON — Five Parkston wrestlers won individual titles at the Madison JV invitational Saturday.

Luke Bietz (126), Ethan Murtha (138), Austin Ripp (145), Cameron Fanning (152) and Lonn Stadlman (182) each claimed championships for the Trojans.

Bietz and Ripp each won their matches via pin. Murtha won via tech fall, while Fanning won by major decision and Stadlman won with a 4-3 decision.

Parkston finished second in the team standings with a score of 158. Madison won with a score of 163.
