Marlin girls drop two to Aberdeen
ABERDEEN — The Mitchell Marlins girls’ hockey team opened the season with a pair of two goal losses to the Aberdeen Cougars over the weekend in Aberdeen.
The Marlins (0-2) fell 5-3 Saturday and 6-4 Sunday.
Haley Stahl scored five of the seven Mitchell goals in the two games, while Kylie Barrington added the other two. Barrington added three assists for the Marlins.
The Marlins play two against the Sioux Falls Flyers starting Friday at 7 p.m. in Sioux Falls.
Marlin boys drop three, tie one in exhibition tourney
DULUTH, Minn. — The Mitchell Marlin boys’ varsity hockey team finished with three losses and a tie at a tournament over the weekend in Duluth, Minn.
After dropping their first game 7-0, the Marlins rebounded for a 6-6 tie against Fort Francis of Ontario.
Jordan Grosdidier netted four goals in the tie and had a total of six over the weekend for Mitchell. Jacob Cersosimo had five assist in the tie.
The Marlins open their regular season against Brookings at 8 p.m. Thursday at the Mitchell Activities Center in Mitchell.
Gerlach, Rios pick up championships for DWU wrestling
STORM LAKE, Iowa — Richard Rios and Kyle Gerlach each went undefeated for the Dakota Wesleyan University wrestling team at the Buena Vista Open Saturday in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Rios was 4-0 in the 133-pound weight class, including a pair of major decisions. Rios topped Ellsworth’s Eric Franklin for the title.
At 149-pounds, Gerlach took a 2-0 decision over Morningside College’s Tyler Lashbrook.
The Tigers meet up with the University of Jamestown for a dual meet Wednesday in Jamestown, N.D.
