DWU softball splits with Midland
FREMONT, Neb. — The Dakota Wesleyan University softball team took one of two from MIdland University in Great Plains Athletic Conference action Saturday in Fremont, Neb.
The Tigers (10-10, 3-5 GPAC) dropped the first game 8-0, before taking the second 4-3, with Lorissa Loeppky picking up the win on the mound for DWU. She pitched five innings, allowing five hits, three runs and striking out two. Loeppky added two hits and two RBIs in the game two win. She drove in the winning run with a walk in the fifth inning.
In the first game, the Warriors (11-10, 2-2 GPAC) pounded out eight runs on eight hits, while Midland pitcher Sammy Hislop pitched five no-hit innings, striking out five.
The Tigers play a doubleheader against Mount Marty at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Yankton.
Court-Menendez takes third at Central Methodist Invite
FAYETTEVILLE, Mo. — Dakota Wesleyan University sophomore Nicole Court-Menendez placed third for the Tiger track and field team in the 5,000-meter walk at the Central Methodist Invite Saturday in Fayetteville, Mo.
The personal best time of 27 minutes, 8.6 seconds topped her previous best by 40 seconds and automatically qualified her for the NAIA Outdoor National Championships.
