St. Bonaventure beats Coyotes in season opener
The Coyotes, trailing 31-21, opened the second half with a 9-4 run to cut the lead to 35-30. But the Bonnies responded with a 22-9 run to lead 57-39.
St. Bonaventure lost three double-figures scorers from last season, debuting a taller roster Saturday night. It showed, as the Bonnies outscored the Coyotes 38-14 in the paint and had a 43-28 edge in rebounds.
The Coyotes found little relief from the 3-point arc, hitting just 4 of 18 for 22.2 percent and shooting only 33.3 percent overall.
Brandon Bos scored 14 points and Trevor Gruis 13 for South Dakota.
Loyola Marymount races past SDSUSAN DIEGO (AP) — Anthony Ireland’s 20 points and 12 assists helped Loyola Marymount outdistance South Dakota State 98-89 on Saturday.
Ireland’s fifth career double-double was part of a potent attack for the Lions (2-0), as Ben Dickinson added 22 points and six rebounds and freshman Gabe Levin added 20 points and six boards.
LMU went into intermission ahead 45-44 on three straight 3-pointers.
Jordan Dykstra led the Jackrabbits (0-2) with 22 points and 11 rebounds for his 12th career double-double, scoring 11 from the free-throw line.
