Mitchell's Brown named to all-ESD first team
Junior Beau Brown has led the Kernel boys’ basketball team all season and his efforts have landed him a spot on the all-Eastern South Dakota Conference first team.
The honor, which was released today, is voted on by the conference’s coaches. Brown was the only Kernel to earn the award this season.
“Beau has established himself as our best one-on-one player, driver and a solo press breaker,” first-year Mitchell coach Erik Skoglund said of his 6-foot-1 point guard. “I have known Beau since his sophomore year at summer camp and he has improved mentally and physically into an all-conference player.”
Brown averaged 15 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2 steals per game as a junior. This is Brown’s second all-ESD honor as he was a honorable mention selection last year as a sophomore, averaging 12.5 points per game.
This was his second year starting for the Kernels and Skoglund said his experience will only help Mitchell next season.
“His leadership has always shown through with this crew,” Skoglund said. “Experience at the varsity level is extremely underrated and the speed of the game increases at every level. It’s great to have a player like him leading by example.”
The Kernels finished 21-1 this season and missed the state tournament for the second straight year.
