Mitchell's Bill Sebert named a top fairs and celebrations volunteer
A Mitchell man is one of four people in the state to receive a 2013 South Dakota Association of Fairs and Celebrations Volunteer of the Year award.
Corn Palace Director Mark Schilling said Bill Sebert, of Mitchell, received the award Nov. 23 in Aberdeen at the association’s state convention for his contributions to the annual Corn Palace Festival. Sebert has been a member of the Corn Palace Festival Board for four years, Schilling said.
Whether it’s helping people to their seats during concerts — such as Thursday night’s Kenny Rogers Christmas show at the Palace — or waking up at 3 a.m. to shuttle show members back and forth from the Sioux Falls airport, Schilling said Sebert is always willing to pitch in.
“Everyone on our board does a fantastic job. We chose Bill, because he is always very open to helping in any way possible,” Schilling said. “Even (Thursday) night, people would have seen him helping out.”
The South Dakota Association of Fairs and Celebrations is comprised of fairs, festivals and community events across the state, including the Corn Palace Festival. Schilling, who is a member of the South Dakota Association of Fairs and Celebrations Board, said the annual awards go to non-paid volunteers who do a great service.
