Mitchell woman injured in rollover accident
A rural Mitchell woman received minor injuries in a rollover accident Tuesday morning on Betts Road near Mitchell.
Highway Patrol Trooper John Lord said Jessica Tilberg, 19, was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Blazer south on Betts Road west of Mitchell at about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday. Lord said Tilberg reported that she met another car driving from the south, toward the center of the road. When Tilberg moved toward the shoulder to make room, she told Lord, she caught the edge of the roadway and went into the west ditch.
After trying to return to the road, Lord said, Tilberg hit the road edge again, lost control of the vehicle, and the Blazer rolled across the roadway, until resting on its top in the east ditch.
Lord said Tilberg reported minor injuries, including minor cuts and being dazed from hitting her head. Mitchell Ambulance workers checked Tilberg at the scene, and family members later took her to Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell.
Lord said Tilberg was wearing her seat belt, which protected her from more severe injuries.
"Had she not been wearing her seat belt, it would have been much worse," Lord said.
Lord said the vehicle's roof was caved in and the windshield shattered, and he considered the vehicle to be a total loss.
