Mitchell woman allowed drug treatment before sentencing
A Mitchell woman convicted of possession of a controlled substance in July will be allowed to enter drug treatment prior to being sentenced.
Brianna Sonnenburg, 24, was scheduled to be sentenced Tuesday but has been recommended for a drug treatment program, according to her attorney, Rebecca Millan, and is waiting for confirmation on the date a bed will be available.
In April, Sonnenburg was arrested after law enforcement found methamphetamine and marijuana in her residence at 1116 E. First Ave., Lot 39.
Millan requested Judge Tim Bjorkman defer sentencing until Sonnenburg can complete treatment. Assistant Attorney General Katie Mallery did not object to the request, but asked that Sonnenburg remain in custody until the bed opens up for her treatment.
Bjorkman scheduled sentencing for October.
