Mitchell teen pleads guilty to kicking cop
A Mitchell woman pleaded guilty Tuesday to assaulting two police officers.
Danica Miller, 19, faces a maximum of two years in prison and a $4,000 fine on one count of simple assault against a law enforcement officer. Prosecutors dismissed two misdemeanor charges and agreed to recommend Miller receive a suspended prison sentence in exchange for her plea.
Miller was arrested Oct. 13 after she fled from a vehicle, in which she was a passenger, that stopped for a sobriety checkpoint on Sanborn Boulevard. Miller kicked Mitchell Police Sgt. Dave Beintema in the groin as she was arrested, court documents say. Miller's blood alcohol content was found to be 0.247 at the time of her arrest. By comparison, the limit for driving is 0.08.
A presentence investigation was ordered. Sentencing is scheduled for next month.
